NIC, in Ljubljana, Slovenia has close to 300 employees of which around 250 carry out research work in 17 laboratories and two infrastructure centres; 130 of these have doctorates of science degrees. Basic and applied research are oriented towards fields which are of long-term importance to both Slovenia and the EU: biotechnology, environmental protection, structural and theoretical chemistry, analytical chemistry, materials research, and chemical engineering through which the Institute is in line with the needs of the domestic and international chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries.

The mission of CNRS is to assess and conduct any research of utility towards the advancement of science and to the economic, social and cultural progress of France.

Solvionic is an SME specialised in the design, synthesis, production and commercialisation of ionic liquids from lab scale to industrial scale. Solvionic is also an expert in research and development of new materials and processes based on the use of Ionic Liquids. Their main R&D activity is devoted to electrochemical energy storage systems based on the use of Ionic Liquids.

Chalmers University of Technology (CTH) offers PhD programmes as well as MScEng, MArch, BScEng, BSc, and nautical programmes. Around 13,100 people work and study at CTH, including more than 10,500 undergraduates. Each year around 300 PhD and Licentiate degrees are awarded as well as 760 MScEng and MArch degrees. Approximately 40% of Sweden's graduate engineers and architects have been educated at CTH. The research at CTH ranges from mathematics and natural sciences to engineering, industrial sciences and community development.

Its research activities are conducted by 66 institutes at locations throughout Germany with about 24,000 employees. Future-oriented strategic research commissioned by the government and public authorities is carried out with the aim of promoting innovations in key technologies of economic and social relevance over the next five to ten years.

The MEET Battery Research Center
In the light of the current promotion of renewable energy sources and the vision of a future based on "electromobility", the development of high-performance energy storage devices has taken on a central role. MEET brings together basic scientific research and industrial applications at one location ("science-to-business" approach). To this purpose, it works together closely both with other scientific institutions and with partners from industry and small and medium-sized companies. A team of experienced scientists and technicians backed by a very good infrastructure and equipped with ultra-modern appliances, technology and laboratories provides the best possible conditions.

Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPI-KGF) is a state-funded research institution devoted to fundamental research and currently has about 400 employees. It is structured in 4 departments, one of them being colloid chemistry.

Scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces examine and create nanostructures and microstructures for diverse materials applications. The structures are often colloids – tiny particles in a different medium – or at interfaces between two media. Many of the structures are copied from successful systems in nature.

IREC is a research institution founded in 2009 under the trust of different governmental and private organisations which include the Departments of Economy, Industry and Innovation of the Catalan Government, the Spanish Ministries of Industry and Science and Innovation and leading companies in the energy management and distribution sectors in Spain such as Endesa, Gas Natural Fenosa, Repsol, CLH, Enagas and Alsthom. IREC is aimed to constitute the centre of reference in Catalonia in research and technological development in the field of energy.

Accurec is a German SME company, founded in 1997 with its primary target being to constitute the consumer battery recycling market in Germany. Using first-time vacuum thermal treatment technology for recycling, Accurec has implemented a zero-emission plant for hazardous batteries (Nickel-Cadmium batteries). After upscaling and expansion, also for other battery types, Accurec is today a continuously growing, branch-leading company. Thus, Accurec has been awarded several times for its innovative resource efficiency technology (Ecopol 2013, German Resource Agency 2012).

Tel Aviv University is the largest university in Israel and most comprehensive institution of higher learning. With over 30,000 students studying in nine faculties and over 125 schools and departments across the spectrum of sciences, humanities and the arts, it is a major centre for teaching and research. TAU is ranked 14th in the world in terms of scientific citations, and among the top 100 universities internationally. Tel Aviv University has excellent Materials (WAMRC) and a Nanotechnology Centres. All equipment is available for the HELIS project.

Institut National de l'Environnement Industriel et des Risques (INERIS) was created in 1990. It is a public research body of an industrial and commercial character, under the supervision of the French Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. In 2010, the staff numbered 584 people including more than 300 engineers, research scientists and managers, and 55 PhD students. INERIS’s mission is to assess and prevent accidental and chronic risks to people and the environment originating from industrial activities, chemical substances and underground works.
